From mid-2014 through late 2015, I served as Art Director for theLEADER, CoreNet Global’s bimonthly trade publication for corporate real estate and workplace professionals — responsible for the magazine cover to cover, working with the editor on content, owning pagination and ad placement, and designing every issue’s cover under a house rule that covers had to be conceptual, never a stock photo of a person’s face.
The Disruptive Innovation cover shares its theme with CoreNet Global’s 2015 Summit that same year — same conceptual territory, but a deliberately different visual execution for each. The Summit materials and the magazine cover needed to stand on their own rather than feel like the same asset reused across formats, so I built two distinct solutions to the same idea rather than one.
For a corporate real estate issue, I built a composite collage layering the range of pressures CRE professionals were actually grappling with into a single image — density, sustainability, workplace change, cost — rather than picking one issue to stand in for the whole.
I served as Art Director for theLEADER for eighteen months, from May/June 2014 through November/December 2015 — roughly nine issues, cover to cover, without ever repeating a visual idea or leaning on a stock photo to sell an issue. My run on the magazine ended when CoreNet Global’s leadership decided to outsource the marketing department entirely rather than replace the departing editor — a structural decision about the department, not a reflection of the work.
